A couple was shocked to see a stranger kick in their back door and shower in their home on a security app.

A couple from Tennessee were left in disbelief when they discovered a stranger breaking into their home and taking a shower through a security app. Kerigan Nardi and her husband were out for a date night dinner last Saturday (January 27) when they received an alert from their home security system about movement in their house around 7pm. Initially assuming it was their dogs triggering a sensor, the southeast Nashville couple’s concern grew when they realized what was actually happening.

A couple was startled when they observed a stranger forcibly kick in their back door and proceed to take a shower in their residence through a security app.

The Nardis witnessed with horror as their security cameras captured a stranger kicking down their back door and beginning to rummage through their house.

After unexpectedly entering the shower for a hurried wash, the man’s actions prompted the couple to dial 911 in a panic, worried about their dogs left in the house. “Our beloved pets are inside. There’s an unfamiliar man in our home. We just want to return,” Kerigan expressed to WIS 10 after the ordeal. Upon law enforcement’s arrival at the Nardis’ residence, they discovered Samuel Smith, later identified, seated on the sofa wearing only a towel around his waist. Subsequently, police arrested him and charged him with aggravated criminal trespassing and possession of methamphetamine, as stated in the arrest affidavit.

Kerigan recounted the unsettling scene: “He was unclothed, seated on our sofa.”

“You simply don’t violate someone like that. It doesn’t matter what mental state you’re in. It doesn’t matter what substances you’re on. Breaking into people’s homes and violating their privacy in such a manner is unacceptable.”

The Nardis detailed their efforts to sanitize the areas the intruder accessed, disposing of the towel he used and thoroughly cleansing their shower in the aftermath of the intrusion.

However, the aftermath has been far from simple for the couple.

“While he was showering in my house, he left behind feces,” Kerigan disclosed to WIS 10. “Yes, he apparently thought that would be a fitting ‘gift’ for the homeowners.”

Shaken by the harrowing experience, the couple has taken additional precautions to safeguard their residence, including the installation of a deadbolt lock and placing a barricade on their door when they’re away.

Furthermore, they are in the process of adding more surveillance cameras around their property and are urging their neighbors to do the same.

“I believe people should invest in cameras and exercise caution because you never know,” Kerigan emphasized.
