AUGUSTA, Ga., April 3 (Reuters) – Mito Pereira’s fall in the final hole cost him May’s PGA Championship title, but it was enough to earn him a spot at the event. Zhou was invited to the Masters, but the Chilean said he had no idea he could wear the green jersey on Monday.
Pereira, who has since been to LIV Golf and will make his Masters debut on Thursday when the first big race of the year starts, was asked about his expectations for this week.
“He definitely won,” Pereira said before getting serious. “No, mostly I’m just trying to enjoy the week. I’ve seen that a lot on TV and you can’t ask for more time playing Masters here this year.”
At the PGA Championships in South Mountain last year, Pereira played only his second major and made three shots into the final.
However, catching a better shot on the 18th hole, Pereira proved the pressure of the majors to be wasted, putting an A double bogey into the flow of the tee here, knocking him out of the playoffs.
