The Pakistan cricket team received a warm welcome from fans upon their arrival in India on Wednesday. Led by captain Babar Azam, the 15-player squad, along with coaching and support staff, landed in Hyderabad after a nine-hour layover in Dubai. This marks the team’s first visit to India in seven years, with their last appearance in 2016 during the ICC T20 World Cup.
Upon arriving at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the squad was met with enthusiastic fans who cheered and shouted as they made their way to the team bus. Security was tight, with police and security officers escorting the players, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) also present.
Babar Azam received a special cheer from the crowd. Only two players on the team had previously visited India. Pakistan is scheduled to play two warm-up matches, against New Zealand on September 29 and Australia on October 3, both in Hyderabad.
The ICC T20 World Cup is set to begin on October 5, with England facing New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Pakistan’s first match is against the Netherlands on October 5 in Hyderabad, and the highly anticipated fixture against hosts India will take place in Ahmedabad on October 14. The tournament features 48 matches across 46 days at 10 different venues, with the final scheduled for November 19.
