According to the authorities, a mountain guide has discovered the remains of an individual high in the Austrian Alps. The man is presumed to have passed away in a glacier accident approximately 22 years ago.
The discovery took place on Friday on the Schlatenkees glacier, situated within the Hohe Tauern national park in the eastern Tyrol province near the border with Italy. The altitude of the discovery site was around 2,900 meters (9,515 feet). Law enforcement shared in an official statement that the remains had clearly been in the location for an extended period. The guide promptly informed the Lienz police, who collaborated with a helicopter team to retrieve the body.
Close to the body’s location, a few meters below, search and rescue personnel located a backpack that contained currency, a bank card, and a driver’s license. Through investigation, the police ascertained that the remains likely belong to an Austrian male who was 37 years old at the time of his presumed demise in 2001. The individual was equipped for cross-country skiing.
