Musk hopes to have an interface implant in the human brain within six months

Tech billionaire Elon Musk said on Wednesday one of his companies would in six months be able to implant a device into a human brain that would allow communication with a computer.

Created by Musk startup Neuralink, the interface will allow users to communicate directly with their computers through their brains, he said.

He said in a company presentation.

“We’ve submitted I think most of our paperwork to the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) and we think probably in about six months we should be able to have our first Neuralink in a human.”

He said, “We’ve been working hard to be ready for our first human (implant), and obviously we want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device in a human.”

Musk, who acquired Twitter last month and owns SpaceX, Tesla and several other companies, is known for making ambitious predictions about his company, some of which have never materialized. . In July 2019, he promised that Neuralink would be able to conduct his first human test in 2020.

A coin-sized prototype was implanted in the monkey’s skull.

In a Neuralink presentation, the company showed some monkeys “playing” a simple video game or moving a cursor around the screen via Neuralink implants. Musk said the company is looking to use implants to restore human vision and mobility.

He said.“We would initially enable someone who has almost no ability to operate their muscles… and enable them to operate their phone faster than someone who has working hands.”

He said.“As miraculous as it may sound, we are confident that it is possible to restore full body functionality to someone who has a severed spinal cord.”

Beyond the potential to treat neurological diseases, Musk’s ultimate goal is to ensure that humans are not intellectually overwhelmed by artificial intelligence, he said.

Other companies working on similar systems include Synchron, which announced in July that it had implanted the first brain-machine interface in the United States.

Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Wednesday that he had “cleared the misunderstanding” that led to him declaring war on the iPhone maker’s App Store after meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Musk tweeted, “Among other things, we resolved the misunderstanding about Twitter potentially being removed from the App Store.”

“Tim was clear that Apple never considered doing so.” Musk also tweeted a video clip of “Apple’s beautiful headquarters” in Cupertino, California, noting that he had a “good conversation” with Cook.

The world’s richest person said earlier this week that he had fired at the world’s most valuable company over App Store fees and rules, with Apple threatening to ban its recently acquired social media platform.

The billionaire CEO tweeted that Apple “threatened to pull Twitter out of the App Store, but won’t tell me why.” Apple, which has not made an official statement on the issue, typically notifies developers when they need to implement fixes in their apps to comply with App Store guidelines.
