Brazilian football star Neymar always said his manager/father dealt with his contract as he took his stand at his trial in Spain when he claimed there was fraud in his transfer to Barcelona during a trial in Spain in 2013.
“My father has always been in charge” of contract negotiations, the 30-year-old confessed to the Barcelona court hearing the case on Tuesday. “I sign what he tells me to.”
The trial is the culmination of a year-long legal battle over Neymar’s 2013 transfer from Santos to Barcelona.
He also said he did not remember whether he was involved in the negotiations that led to an agreement with Barcelona over his transfer from Brazilian club Santos to the Catalan club in 2011.
Spanish prosecutors are seeking two years in prison and a fine of €10 million ($9.8 million) for Neymar, a key member of the Brazilian team who will be competing in the World Cup in Qatar this month.
He then joined Qatar-owned Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2017 for a world record transfer fee of €222 million ($215 million).
