Sean Combs Faces Lawsuit from Cassie Alleging Years of Abuse

In a federal court filing on Thursday, Cassie, an R&B singer formerly signed to Sean Combs’s label, accused the music mogul, also known as Puff Daddy or Diddy, of subjecting her to a decade-long pattern of control and abuse, including rape. Cassie, whose real name is Casandra Ventura and was romantically involved with Combs, detailed incidents of drug use, physical assault, and coerced sexual encounters in the lawsuit filed in Federal District Court in Manhattan.

According to the suit, the abuse began shortly after Cassie met Combs in 2005 when she was 19, and it continued until 2018 when she alleges he raped her. In response, Combs’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, vehemently denied the allegations, stating that Cassie had previously demanded $30 million from Combs, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which he rejected as blatant blackmail. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages.

The legal action comes amid a wave of sexual assault civil suits against prominent figures in the music industry, including Steven Tyler, L.A. Reid, and Neil Portnow. Combs, a renowned music executive and producer, founded Bad Boy in 1993, working with major hip-hop artists and amassing substantial wealth. The suit portrays Combs as a violent individual who exerted control over Cassie’s life, financially and personally, including instances of physical violence, coercive sexual acts, and threats against her and others. The court papers name additional defendants who allegedly aided Combs in controlling Cassie. The lawsuit, filed under the Adult Survivors Act, aims to address the trauma Cassie endured, with the expiration of the statute of limitations approaching.
