Russia initiated a large-scale aerial assault on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities on Thursday, causing injuries to at least 18 individuals and substantial damage to infrastructure throughout the country, according to officials.
Reports of explosions were heard in Kyiv and its vicinity following an air raid alert. Rescue teams were dispatched to various locations in the capital. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko confirmed injuries in Kyiv, Cherkasy regions, and Kharkiv in the east during the morning attack, describing it as a turbulent morning with explosions occurring in different regions of Ukraine.
Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, disclosed that seven people, including a 9-year-old girl, were injured in Kyiv. Missile debris fell in the city center, leading to damage to an infrastructure facility, several non-residential buildings, and a subsequent fire.
Cherkasy in central Ukraine also witnessed damage, with a hotel and multiple shopping kiosks affected, resulting in seven injuries.
Emergency services posted a video on Telegram showing rescuers carrying an injured man on a stretcher amid a blazing fire.
The interior ministry and regional authorities reported blasts in various regions, including Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskiy, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk.
In a separate overnight incident, two individuals lost their lives due to Russian shelling targeting a dormitory in the southern city of Kherson, as confirmed by governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
