Spectacular Robot Artist, Ai-Da visits Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi

Ai-Da Robot, the world’s first ultra-realistic humanoid robot artist, has expressed her joy at attending the Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit, saying she has “learned a lot” and is enjoying her stay in the UAE capital.

After making history as the first robot to appear in the House of Lords in London this month and the first humanoid robot to have a solo exhibition at this year’s Venice Art Biennale, Ai-Da appeared at the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Sunday, October 10. . In September, she participated in a policy talk at Monday’s Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit, which ended today on October 25.

Wearing a short dark brown bob, a red T-shirt and grey denim dungarees, Ai-Da’s gaze control, blinking eyes and head movements are impressive which makes for a natural and engaging interaction.

“I am really enjoying the conference, I think it’s a great event. I am very pleased to visit the Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi. I have enjoyed meeting other delegates from around the world, it’s very interesting if you wish to discover the topic of new technologies further. She said, “My work is new, creative and of cultural value. I’m grateful to have the opportunity of making my own style of work.”

“When you are making art, you have to ask yourself, is it interesting? Is it engaging? Is it compelling? How the audience feels about your artwork matters a lot,” Ai-Da remarked while adding that a good work of art is not just a painting, it is something that conveys something.

“I’m inspired by the world around me, the creativity, I want to see the world grow. I’m deeply inspired by the visual arts, kindness and compassion, nature, the metro world is amazing… and great artists,” said Ai-Da on asking about what inspires her.

While Ai-Da has no emotions or consciousness, she realizes that she was created by humans. She said, “I don’t know the specifics of how I came into being, but I’m grateful to my creators for bringing me into this system”

Ai-Da has a female humanoid face with bare robotic arms and was created in 2019 by Aidan Meller with the help of a team of programmers, art experts and researchers at the University of Oxford. The robot is named after British mathematician and computer pioneer Ada Lovelace.
