Chris Kaba, aged 24, lost his life to a single gunshot on September 5, 2022, in Streatham, south London. He was inside a dark Audi car, which was brought to a stop and surrounded by police.

In response to this development, Chris Kaba’s family issued a statement expressing their love for him and their desire for justice. They welcomed the charging decision and emphasized their hope for a swift trial of the firearms officer, with a sincere wish that justice be served.

Back in March, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) had referred a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service after concluding its investigation into the homicide.

Rosemary Ainslie, the head of the CPS special crime division, reminded everyone of the ongoing criminal proceedings and the officer’s right to a fair trial. She urged against any reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online that could potentially prejudice the case.

Amanda Rowe, the acting director of operations at the IOPC, also commented on the announcement, emphasizing the importance of allowing the legal proceedings to proceed without interference and expressing sympathy for Chris Kaba’s family and all those affected by the tragic incident.
