Law enforcement officers continued their search for Robert Card, the alleged mass shooting suspect accused of killing 18 people in Lewiston, Maine. This marked the nation’s latest incident of gunfire in public spaces as Americans went about their daily lives. During the execution of the search warrants, police utilized loudspeakers to broadcast messages, a routine practice according to a spokesperson for the Maine State Police. Residents of Lewiston, Maine’s second-largest city with a population of around 37,000, were instructed for the second consecutive day to shelter in place. A similar warning was issued in Lisbon, where Card’s SUV was discovered. Both cities announced the closure of schools on Friday.

As the search continued, details about the victims began to surface. Among them was Joseph “Joey” Walker, a manager at Schemengees Bar and Grille, one of the locations targeted by the gunman. Walker’s father, Leroy Walker Sr., shared the heartbreaking account of waiting at the Lewiston hospital, where most shooting victims were taken. According to Walker Sr., the family was informed that Joey died a hero, as he courageously confronted the assailant with a butcher knife. This revelation added to the grief experienced by Walker’s family, emphasizing his positive qualities as a compassionate individual.

The Just-in-Time Recreation bowling alley, the other site of the shooting, was hosting youth night when the assailant entered and began firing.
