A pilot lost his life following a plane crash during a gender reveal event in Mexico on Sunday. Footage circulating online depicts the plane emitting pink smoke while flying over a couple standing before a sign reading “Oh baby,” surrounded by pink and blue balloons. The recording captures the moment the aircraft’s left wing seemingly detached from the fuselage as it distanced itself from the group of onlookers below. According to officials in Navolato, Sinaloa state, the pilot succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash while at the hospital.
Alan Francisco Rangel from the Sinaloa Red Cross informed CNN that paramedics initially administered care to the pilot at the crash site in San Pedro, Navolato, before transferring him to a local hospital, where he ultimately passed away. The identity of the pilot remains undisclosed, and the exact cause of the crash remains unclear. Fortunately, no additional injuries were reported stemming from the accident.
Gender reveal parties, originally intended as lighthearted events to share the impending arrival of a baby’s gender with loved ones, have evolved into risky and costly endeavors for some expectant parents. In one instance from 2017 in Arizona, guests were instructed to shoot at a makeshift target labeled “Boy” and “Girl.” Packed with highly explosive Tannerite, the target detonated, releasing a blue cloud and igniting nearby vegetation. This incident resulted in more than $8 million in restitution for the individuals responsible, as it sparked a 47,000-acre wildfire.
Another tragic gender reveal mishap occurred in Iowa in October 2019 when a family inadvertently constructed a pipe bomb as part of their celebration. The device detonated, causing the entire pipe to explode and send shrapnel flying, resulting in the tragic death of a grandmother who was nearby.
