NFL: Las Vegas Raiders set franchise scoring record in win against Los Angeles Chargers

The Las Vegas Raiders established a franchise record for points scored by defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 63-21. Rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell had an impressive performance, completing 20 of 34 passes for 248 yards and four touchdowns. The Raiders dominated with a halftime lead of 42-0, falling just nine points short of the NFL’s all-time regular-season record for points in a single game, set by Washington in 1966. The victory keeps the Raiders’ slim AFC wildcard hopes alive as they move to a 6-8 record for the season.

Having lost three consecutive games, including a 3-0 defeat against the Minnesota Vikings, the Raiders bounced back in a remarkable fashion. O’Connell credited the short week for the team’s resurgence, emphasizing the need to move forward and trust in their abilities.

In addition to the on-field action, history was made with the officiating team. For the first time ever, there was an all-black on-field and replay crew overseeing the fixture. Ronald Torbert, an NFL official since 2010, served as the referee. Notably, three women were on the same crew, with Maia Chaka as the line judge, Artenzia Young-Seigler as the replay official, and Desiree Abrams as the replay assistant. This marked a significant moment in the history of NFL officiating.
