As we approach that time of the year characterized by pumpkin spice, Halloween excitement, and the much-anticipated New York Fashion Week, here’s what you need to know about NYFW 2023.
The September fashion week will see the return of renowned designers like Sergio Hudson, Christian Siriano, Proenza Schouler, and Brandon Maxwell, all set to unveil their spring/summer 2024 collections. Additionally, Ralph Lauren, Jonathan Cohen, and 3.1 Phillip Lim are making noteworthy comebacks after a hiatus.
Newcomers to New York Fashion Week this year include Advisry, Chan Chit Lo, FFORME, Grace Ling, and Sho Konishi.
The preliminary schedule boasts over 71 confirmed designers, with some collections being presented digitally and by appointment.
Officially, NYFW runs from September 8 to September 13, as per the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) calendar. Helmut Lang kicks off the week with Peter Do’s debut show as creative director, and Luar, the CFDA’s 2022 accessory designer of the year, will close the week with a show on September 13.
NYFW is one of the four major global fashion weeks, alongside Milan, London, and Paris. Traditionally, it serves as a platform for designers to showcase their creations to fashion journalists and store buyers through presentations and runway shows.
The official New York Fashion Week schedule reflects the city’s dynamic culture and ever-evolving fashion scene, featuring both emerging and established American designers.
While the guest list for fashion week often remains a well-guarded secret, it’s expected that celebrities generating buzz will attend various shows. Notably, Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, is a frequent presence in the front row.
Past NYFW events have featured surprise appearances and drum performances by the likes of Travis Barker, as well as appearances by Julia Fox, Kimora Lee Simmons supporting her daughter Aoki, and pop-ups by Janet Jackson.
