Mandy Moore says son has been diagnosed with rare childhood condition

Mandy Moore has disclosed that her young son has been diagnosed with a rare condition known as Gianotti-Crosti syndrome.

The star of “This Is Us” shared several photos displaying her son’s rash on his legs and praised the two-year-old’s courageous response to the illness, which can persist for a few weeks.

The 39-year-old actress wrote, “This sweet boy woke up with a strange rash on Saturday morning. We initially thought it might be an eczema flare-up, poison oak, or an allergy. We tried to figure out the cause and did everything to alleviate his itching. We visited urgent care, a pediatrician, a dermatologist, and a pediatric dermatologist.”

She continued, “It turns out it’s a viral childhood rash that spontaneously appears, known as Gianotti-Crosti syndrome. It sometimes accompanies a cold, but not in Gus’s case. The rash is all over his legs, feet, the backs of his arms, but nowhere else. There’s nothing to do but apply a steroid cream and give him Benadryl at night. It could last 6-8 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? Parenting can be so strange and challenging, and sometimes you feel so helpless (though I’m very grateful it’s only an itchy skin condition). Kids are resilient, and as long as he’s smiling through it, we’re okay.”

Gianotti-Crosti syndrome, abbreviated as GCS, is a rare condition that manifests suddenly and is sometimes associated with a cold. It is characterized by skin lesions and a blistering rash that can appear on the arms, legs, and buttocks. The condition typically lasts for a few weeks but often subsides relatively quickly.

The skin lesions are often preceded by an infection, typically a viral one, which may cause symptoms like a sore throat, mild fever, or upper respiratory symptoms.

In some instances, GCS has been linked to Hepatitis B, but in North America, this is a rare cause of the condition, according to information from the US government’s rare diseases advisory.

Mandy Moore is renowned for her work as a singer and actress, with a career spanning both music and film/television. She currently stars in “This Is Us” and has received nominations for a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy for her role as Rebecca Pearson in the family drama.
