Look of the Week: Another Hadid sister makes runway debut in typical Copenhagen style

A fresh addition to the Hadid clan has entered the family business. Alana, the half-sister of Gigi Hadid, host of “Next in Fashion,” and Bella Hadid, the 2022 Model of the Year, marked her runway debut at Copenhagen Fashion Week by opening the Spring-Summer 2024 show for the Danish brand Saks Potts on a rainy Monday afternoon.

Amid the damp and overcast weather, the 40-year-old Alana confidently strutted along the city’s waterfront pathway, adorned in an ensemble meticulously designed to evoke thoughts of summer amidst the gray skies. Her attire, which consisted of a blue sequined midi skirt layered over wide-legged jeans reminiscent of the early 2000s, along with silver flip flops, exuded an aura of effortlessly cool Scandi chic.

While the inclusion of metallic flip flops might raise eyebrows, these casual shoes have long been a signature of Copenhagen’s fashion scene. Local stylists have praised them for their ability to ground even the most conceptual outfits and they are frequently spotted in street style snapshots. In fact, Vogue hailed Havaianas as the footwear trend during Copenhagen’s fashion week back in 2018, and the trend has maintained its popularity ever since.

Alana herself embraced the notion of a mismatched aesthetic. In her post-show conversation with Vogue, she praised Scandinavian brands for their willingness to carve their own path: “One of the things I appreciate about Scandinavian brands is their fearlessness in marching to their own beat,” she said. “They manage to create something flashy yet comfortable – an attire suitable for biking or rainy days while still making a strong fashion statement.” Alana’s inaugural catwalk appearance was soon followed by her appearance on the runway for the Copenhagen-based brand Munthe. As for the approval of her runway modeling endeavor from her famous sisters, she reportedly shared, “Clearly, they understand the thrill of being on a runway, so they are undoubtedly excited for me.”

Alana’s first foray into the fashion show scene coincided with her 40th birthday celebrations, during which she transformed into a Grecian goddess. Gigi, commemorating her sister’s recent appearances on the Copenhagen runways, expressed her support on Instagram: “This is 40!”
