Muslim women in Kerala burned hijabs on Sunday, November 6, in solidarity with Iran’s anti-hijab movement. The incident occurred during a seminar hosted by Kerala Yuktivadi Sangam.
A seminar titled ‘Fanos Science and Free Thought’ was held at Kozhikode ahead of another seminar to be held at Malapuram next month. As part of the event, a Muslim woman burned her hijab in solidarity with Iran’s anti-hijab movement.
The organization’s six Muslim women led the hijab burning movement. This is the first reported case of hijab burning in India.

Activists hoisted slogans and held placards in solidarity with women protesting the enactment of the hijab in Iran.
Yuktivadi Sangam is a national organization and such seminars are held annually on the theme of free thinking.
The event was attended by people of different religions, including a Muslim woman who was part of the organization. A hijab burning inspired by a similar incident in Iran took place on Sunday in Kozhikode, Kerala.
