Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni recently confirmed her split from her boyfriend of nearly 10 years, television journalist Andrea Giambruno, amid controversy surrounding his recent on-air remarks. The pair, though never married, share a seven-year-old daughter.
Meloni expressed her sentiments, saying, “I will defend what we shared, our enduring friendship, and most importantly, our seven-year-old daughter who adores both her parents, unlike the relationship I had with mine. I won’t comment further on this matter.”
Giambruno, the host of “Diario del Giorno” on Mediaset – a segment of the MFE media conglomerate, was recently under scrutiny after unedited parts of his show disclosed him using inappropriate language and seemingly making unsolicited advances towards a female coworker.
In a prior incident in August, Giambruno faced backlash for seemingly blaming victims in a gang rape case, insinuating that women might evade such situations by refraining from excessive drinking. Commenting on his show, he remarked, “While you have every right to let loose when out dancing, by staying sober and alert, you might avoid certain risky situations and potential predators.”
However, following these remarks, Meloni emphasized that her partner’s opinions shouldn’t reflect on her. She further declared her intention to abstain from addressing questions concerning his conduct in the future.
Their paths first crossed in 2015 when Giambruno was contributing as a writer for a television program featuring Meloni.
