Instagram users noticed a sudden drop in follower counts, either because they couldn’t log in or because their accounts seemed to have been suspended.
The social networking site confirmed on its Twitter account that the Instagram outage that began Monday morning has been resolved. During the suspension, Instagram locked out users and told many that they had suspended their accounts on October 31, 2022. Reports of this issue seem to be focused on iPhone users, with some saying that the app recently crashed and became unusable before the early morning update.
Instagram wrote, “We’ve resolved this bug now — it was causing people in different parts of the world to have issues accessing their accounts and caused a temporary change for some in the number of followers. Sorry!” The platform first confirmed the issue on Twitter at 10:14 AM ET, but didn’t say the issue was resolved until hours later, at 6:00 PM ET. Adam Mosseri, who runs Instagram, also apologized for the suspension.
When Instagram confirmed the issue, Downdetector reported over 7,000, but has remained flat throughout the day.
A quick look at Cristiano Ronaldo’s account around 10:15 a.m. ET showed that his number of followers had dropped to 493 million, down from 493 million the previous day, to 3 million. Instagram’s own main account is down more than 1 million.
