Actor Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in “Wonka,” announced the Game of the Year at the video game industry’s prominent awards ceremony. The Los Angeles event saw the fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3, based on Dungeons and Dragons, securing the top prize. Belgian developer Larian, accepting the award, described the epic fantasy RPG as a labor of love. Baldur’s Gate 3 dominated the awards with six wins, including Best Performance, Best RPG, and Player’s Choice. Chalamet, introduced as “ModdedController360,” a reference to his deleted teenage YouTube channel, has expressed his passion for gaming in interviews and recently visited legendary developer Hideo Kojima’s Japanese studio.

Baldur’s Gate 3 garnered six awards, with actor Neil Newbon, who portrayed fan favorite Astarion, receiving Best Performance. Alan Wake 2, a survival horror game, secured three awards for Best Game Direction, Narrative, and Art Direction. Other notable wins included The Last of Us TV series for Best Adaptation, Cyberpunk 2077 for Best Ongoing Game, and puzzle adventure Cocoon in the Best Independent Game category. The Game Awards also featured new reveals, including a first look at Exodus, a sci-fi RPG from Archetype Entertainment, and Hideo Kojima’s OD project with director Jordan Peele.

The awards ceremony, a blend of awards and previews, showcased upcoming titles and projects. Despite a year marked by job cuts in the gaming industry, the event faced criticism for its focus on trailers and adverts. The show, organized by gaming journalist Geoff Keighley, presented 31 awards in various categories, with winners determined by a panel of industry experts and fan votes accounting for 10% of the final score.
