A significant donor to the University of Pennsylvania, Ross Stevens, has revoked a $100 million grant following the controversial testimony of the school’s president, Elizabeth Magill, in Congress. Stevens expressed dismay over Magill’s evasive response regarding the punishment for students advocating the genocide of Jews.
The donation withdrawal is attributed to President Magill’s conduct during the congressional hearing, with Stevens citing concerns about the university’s permissive stance on those endorsing violence against Jewish people. Magill has faced calls for resignation, including from the Wharton advisory board, and a House Committee announced a formal investigation into Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and MIT for alleged rampant antisemitism on their campuses. Additionally, two University of Pennsylvania students filed a lawsuit accusing the school of fostering anti-Jewish hatred and discrimination, selectively enforcing conduct rules, and hiring professors promoting antisemitic violence. The Department of Education is investigating multiple schools over alleged incidents of both antisemitism and Islamophobia.
