After this performance, it was difficult for Canelo to turn down the challenge. However, with a rematch with Dmitry Bivol looming, it will be interesting to see what direction Canelo takes after his battle with John Ryder this weekend at Cinco De Mayo.

One thing is for sure, Benavidez’s star power cannot be denied and a fight against Canelo on Mexico’s Independence Day will be a massive showdown between a rising star and a starter.

In one of the most anticipated fights of the year, Benavidez and Plante delivered on their performance promise. The clash of styles was evident early on, as Plante used lateral movement, side jabs and hand speed to unbalance the “Mexican monster”. Plant ran a few laps early, confusing his opponent. Benavidez dropped Plante and was booked for an elbow strike and rough driving.

It was clear that the rivalry was playing out in the ring as Plant and Benavidez cringed and gesticulated at each other.

But you can’t stay away from a monster forever.
