A couple has committed to a £1 million investment in a 12-year-long voyage on a cruise ship, leaving us wondering if there’s room for more passengers!

Amanda and her partner have decided to embark on a permanent cruise adventure scheduled for 2025. To fund this unique journey, they plan to manage their portfolio of 25 properties while sailing the world.

This aspiration of theirs has been a long-term goal, and they even experimented with a smaller-scale version a couple of years ago when they borrowed their friends’ yacht. During a month-long trip to the Bahamas, they discovered that repairing the yacht’s issues cost more than the entire journey. Amanda shared in an interview with Insider, “We ended up spending around £25,000 fixing the engine and another £15,000 to £20,000 on fuel.”

As a result, they opted to invest £1 million in a 12-year lease for an apartment on a cruise ship, allowing them to live at sea permanently. Although the decision to commit to this lifestyle was spontaneous, Amanda swiftly booked a call and paid a £10,000 deposit.

Living on the ship comes with additional expenses, such as monthly maintenance fees of £4,800. However, Amanda is not overly concerned about these extra costs, noting, “At least we won’t have to worry about shelling out £25,000 for a broken engine.”

Their shipboard apartment consists of one bedroom, a spacious balcony, and ample outdoor living space. They are unable to make any interior alterations to their apartment, as the ship has furnished everything to be fireproof. One special request Amanda made is for an extra bed in their apartment to accommodate her mother’s visits.

However, hosting guests in their apartment comes at a cost, with the ship charging an additional £70 per day for visitors. The couple hasn’t paid the full £1 million upfront; instead, they pay 40% of the expenses before embarking on the voyage, with the remainder paid in installments. Amanda expressed hope that interest rates would decrease by then, making financing more affordable. We can only hope that’s the case!
