Box office: ‘John Wick 4’ earn $8.9 million in preview

John Wick returns for the fourth time and sets a franchise record with “John Wick: Chapter 4”, the latest installment in the knife-throwing action franchise. Lionsgate’s fourth film opened with an $8.9 million domestic preview.

“John Wick: Chapter 4” is on track to break the opening weekend record for a third movie, with an estimated take of between $65 million and $70 million. Impressively, each film has significantly increased its opening weekend releases after its release. The original John Wick debuted in 2014 with $14 million, followed by John Wick: Chapter 2 ($30.4 million) in 2017 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Pala Bellum in 2019 ($56.8 million). millions of dollars).
Thursday’s draw has seen similar growth over the years; “John Wick” has $950,000 in national previews; “John Wick 2” has $2.2 million and “John Wick 3” has $5.9 million.

The fourth installment has the highest price, costing over $100 million, but it should end up being the highest in the series. “John Wick 3” ended its run with $328.3 million worldwide, followed by “John Wick 2” with $174.3 million and the original with $86.1 million.
As the weekend’s only new blockbuster, John Wick 4 should easily beat last week’s box office champ Shazam: Wrath of God.

In the latest film, Keanu Reeves’ Master Assassin returns, and to finally defeat the villainous High Table, he must face the Marquess Vincent de Grammont, played by Bill Skarsgard, to win freedom. Along the way, Vic also battles blind swordsman Kane (Donnie Yen) and mysterious tracker Mr. Ma. No one (Shamier Anderson) shares Wick’s love of dogs. Rina Sawayama and Hiroyuki Sanada have also joined the ‘John Wick’ universe, alongside returning stars Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne and Lance Reddick, who died tragically last week at the age of 60.

Directors Chad Stahelski and Reeves pay tribute to Reddick ahead of the film’s premiere.

“Lance is a people person, a special artist, a gentleman of grace and dignity,” Reeves said at the Los Angeles premiere. “It’s just really something special, every time he stepped on set, to watch the passion he had for his work. It’s really easy to work with him.”

“I had Lance in my life almost 10 years,” Stahelski said. “Although that was done over the course of four films, we’ve worked together on other things. I just got to be happy and be proud of the fact that I got to spend so much time with him. We’re going to miss him.”
