Australia v Pakistan: Tourists replying to big first-innings total in Perth


On the second day of the first Test between Australia and Pakistan in Perth, Australia strengthened their dominant position. Mitchell Marsh played a vital role, scoring 90 off 107 balls, helping Australia add 141 runs to reach a total of 487 all out. Despite the debutant Pakistan bowler Aamer Jamal impressively taking 6-111, Australia maintained control.

In response, Pakistan concluded day two at 132-2, trailing by 355 runs. The tourists faced a slow-paced innings, with Imam-ul-Haq anchoring the team with a watchful and unbeaten 38 off 136 balls.

Australia resumed their innings at 346-5, with Marsh continuing his good form from the Ashes series. Although wicketkeeper Carey was bowled on 34 by debutant Jamal, ending a 90-run partnership, Marsh accelerated the scoring. His innings included 15 fours and one six before being bowled by Khurram Shahzad. Jamal completed an impressive debut by dismissing Starc, Cummins, and Lyon.

Pakistan’s opening pair, Abdullah Shafique and Imam, had a first-wicket partnership of 74, with Shafique reaching 42 before being caught by David Warner off Nathan Lyon’s bowling. Pakistan captain Shan Masood increased the tempo but was eventually dismissed by Mitchell Starc just before the close of play, with Pakistan ending the day at two down.

Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh expressed his pride in being part of the team, praising the leadership of captain Patty (Pat Cummins) and the special experience of playing in front of a home crowd at Western Australia’s home ground during a home Test summer.
