Police are investigating the sudden and catastrophic deterioration in the condition of a woman who passed away two days after undergoing full-body liposuction at a Russian clinic.
Anna Andrea, 47, had extensive fat removal from various body parts during a single procedure, which was performed by a prominent Russian plastic surgeon, Maria Burlova, head of Abriell Clinic in St Petersburg. The surgeon may potentially face legal consequences.
Anna’s family was not informed when she was rushed to a state hospital as complications arose following the procedure, suspected to be a heart attack and body swelling. Her daughter Kira Fedora stated that her mother had only planned for a facelift and felt pressured into the extensive surgery.
The clinic is under investigation for potentially providing services that do not meet safety requirements, which could result in legal penalties, including a maximum jail term of six years for negligence leading to death. Dr. Burlova has not commented on the matter, and an inquiry by the Russian Investigative Committee is ongoing.
