14-Year-Old Boy in US-Flag Cap Kills Two in Bangkok Mall Shooting Spree
A 14-year-old schoolboy wearing a cap adorned with the US flag has unleashed a shooting rampage in a major Bangkok shopping center. He killed two individuals and wounded five others in the Siam Paragon building, which was filled with shoppers when the attack occurred. Police, who detained the boy less than an hour after the rampage began, noted that he appeared to be dealing with mental illness. The victims included a visitor from China and a Myanmar national, with all but one of the wounded being women.
The situation has been brought under control, and Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has expressed condolences to the victims’ families. Videos and reports of the incident caused panic, with hundreds of shoppers fleeing the mall and seeking refuge. Authorities swiftly apprehended the teenager at a nearby hotel, where he surrendered without resistance.
Thailand has a history of firearm incidents, and this shooting took place shortly before the one-year anniversary of a devastating attack in which an ex-police officer killed 24 children and 12 adults.
