Since June, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, two social media moguls, have been playfully bantering on social media about the possibility of a mixed martial arts cage match between them. In a recent post on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter and now headed by Musk, he announced that the proposed fight would be livestreamed on X. Musk also mentioned that all proceeds from the event would go to charity, specifically benefiting veterans.
On the same platform, Musk revealed that he has been diligently preparing for the fight by lifting weights throughout the day. He even brought the weights along with him to ensure he can train whenever he finds the time. When questioned about the purpose of the fight, Musk replied that it’s a “civilized form of war” and suggested that men have a natural inclination towards such physical challenges.
As of now, there has been no response or comment from Meta, the company helmed by Mark Zuckerberg. The good-natured back-and-forth between the two moguls has entertained their followers, but it remains to be seen if this friendly challenge will ever materialize into an actual match.
‘Ultimate test’
According to sports journalist Gareth A Davies, the potential fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has captured people’s attention, as it represents the ultimate test of a confrontation between two influential figures. Davies compared it to ancient emperors putting gladiators in a colosseum to fight, highlighting that in this case, it’s like two modern “emperors” engaging in a battle for supremacy. Being two of the wealthiest and most well-known individuals globally, the fight has piqued widespread interest.
Davies suggested that the large platforms and followings of Musk and Zuckerberg would generate massive attention for the event, possibly making it the most-watched fight in history. The initial exchange began when Musk, 52, expressed his willingness to participate in a cage match with the 39-year-old Zuckerberg, who is trained in jiujitsu. Zuckerberg, known for posting pictures of his victorious matches on Instagram, promptly responded, asking Musk to specify the location. Musk then suggested “Vegas Octagon,” referring to a venue known for hosting mixed martial arts championship bouts.
