Usher to perform 2024 Super Bowl half-time show

Usher’s confirmation as the headline performer for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show has been officially announced.

Usher

The R&B icon follows in the footsteps of Rihanna, whose stunning performance last February also served as the announcement of her pregnancy.

Usher expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s an incredible honor to finally have the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl, something I’ve always dreamt of. I can’t wait to deliver a show that will be unlike anything my fans have seen from me before.”

Jay-Z partnership

Usher, known for numerous multi-platinum hits like “You Make Me Wanna,” “Pop Ya Collar,” “Yeah!,” “Burn,” and “Confessions Pt II,” was one of the biggest music stars of the late 1990s and 2000s. He previously made an appearance at the Super Bowl in 2011 as a special guest of the headlining act, Black Eyed Peas, memorably performing a breathtaking leap over will.i.am before landing in a split.

His selection as the halftime show performer is a result of the National Football League’s partnership with Jay-Z’s entertainment agency Roc Nation, which aims to elevate the quality of Super Bowl halftime shows. Recent halftime performances, including Rihanna’s and the 2022 star-studded lineup featuring Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent, have demonstrated the impact of this collaboration.

This coveted halftime show slot is so prestigious that many artists forgo a fee to participate. Rihanna’s 2023 performance, for instance, became the most-watched halftime show in history, with 121.017 million viewers.

Recognizing the massive Super Bowl audience, Usher plans to release a new album on the day of the event titled “Coming Home,” a follow-up to his 2016 release “Hard II Love,” which achieved top 10 rankings on both the US and UK album charts. He hinted at the possibility of having special guest collaborators join him on stage during the performance.

Usher also reflected on the legacy of legendary R&B performers like Michael Jackson and Prince, who delivered memorable Super Bowl performances in the past.

Jay-Z, in a statement, praised Usher as the ideal choice for the Super Bowl concert, describing him as the “ultimate artist and showman” and expressing his anticipation of witnessing the magic Usher will bring to the stage.

The 2024 Super Bowl is scheduled to take place on February 11th at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, a state-of-the-art venue with a $2 billion price tag.
