Taylor Swift is the first artist ever to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Singles Chart.
She overtakes Drake, who held the previous record for her nine Top 10 singles in September 2021. Before him, The Beatles had her eight Top 10 hits in 1964, her highest-selling release.
Swift’s chart domination comes from her latest album Midnights, which became the best-selling release of 2022.
“10 out of 10 of the Hot 100??? On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES,” tweeted the pop star.
The 32-year-old hit No. 1 with her single Anti-Hero, whose chorus, “It’s me. Hi! I’m the problem, it’s me,” trended on Tik Tok.
The remaining Top 10 includes his tracks from albums such as Lavender Haze, Maroon, Snow On The Beach, Bejeweled and Karma.
All 13 Midnights Standard Edition songs made the Top 15, with only Sam Smith’s Unholy at No. 11 and Steve Lacy’s Bad Habits at No. 12.
The seven bonus tracks of the Midnights Deluxe “3am Edition” are between number 20 and 45.
Taylor Swift surprised fans when she announced her new album during the closing moments of the 2022 MTV VMAs in New Jersey in August.
She describes the record as a story of “her 13 sleepless nights interspersed with life” and “a journey of terror and sweet dreams”.
Taylor Swift returns to the pop palette of her pre-pandemic albums following the release of Evermore and Folklore’s homegrown indie-folk albums in 2020.
But the subdued tone of these records remains, and their late-night stories are more subdued than hits like Shake It Off and Lover.
Part of its success is due to a clever marketing campaign that released the album in multiple collector formats, including four vinyl editions that can be combined into one watch.
However, Billboard reported that Swift’s top 10 hit would have come from streaming alone, before counting sales and audio plays.
Midnights debuted at number one on the US album charts, selling 1.4 million copies. This includes his over one million copies on CDs and vinyl, an almost unheard of number in the streaming era.
The album likewise topped the UK charts with sales of 204,000, making it the first album to top 200,000 since Adele turned 30 just a year ago.
Surprisingly, the number marks Taylor Swift’s biggest sales in the first week of her UK charts of her career. Her highest record to date was her 90,300-selling album Her 1989 in 2014.
However, the UK chart rule that only three songs by an artist can be in the top 100 at one time prevents her from repeating her dominance on the US singles countdown.
Were it not for that warning, Swift would have had her eight of this week’s Top 10 singles. Instead, she has to settle for her No. 1 (Antihero), No. 3 (Lavender Haze) and No. 4 (Snow on the Beach).
Last week’s number one, Sam Smith’s Unholy, clung to number two, denying Swift a clean win at the top of the charts. He said it helped him break some records.
She now has the most Top 10 hits by a woman in chart history, with a total of 40 surpassing Madonna’s 38. Of all the acts, she trails only Drake with her 59 Top 10 hits.
Midnights is also the first album ever to spawn 10 Top 10 singles.
Taylor Swift also broke the record for the most plays of her single album in a day on Spotify, Apple and Amazon Music.
In the UK, Midnights sold 62,000 copies on vinyl alone. This is her highest weekly vinyl album sales in the 21st century.
