It is the first time Royal Mail has dedicated an entire stamp issue to a female pop group which is Spice Girls.

Royal Mail is releasing a collection of 15 stamps commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls, marking the first time the postal service has dedicated a stamp issue to a female pop group. The group, thrilled by this honor, remarked that it reflects the enduring spirit of Girl Power, something they never imagined when they first formed. Featuring iconic moments from their performances between 1997 and 2012, such as their appearance at the Brit Awards in 1997 and the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, these stamps showcase the group’s journey.

Victoria Beckham took the stage at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of The Return of the Spice Girls Tour in 2008.

Geri Halliwell-Horner, famously dressed in the iconic Union Jack dress at the 1997 Brit Awards, is honored with her own stamp.

In 1997, Ginger Spice, as she was known, grabbed headlines by kissing the then-Prince Charles during a charity event for the Prince’s Trust.

Since last April, all standard Royal Mail stamps feature a portrait of the now-King Charles.

After their debut single “Wannabe” stormed the charts in 1996, the Spice Girls ignited a global frenzy known as “Spice mania.” Their success yielded nine UK number one hits, including classics like “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1,” “Who Do You Think You Are,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “Viva Forever.”

Joining an elite roster of music groups honored with dedicated stamp issues—such as The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, The Rolling Stones in 2022, and Iron Maiden in 2023—the Spice Girls now grace a miniature sheet with individual images from the iconic Spice World photoshoot.

Expressing their enthusiasm, the Spice Girls shared their excitement at being recognized by Royal Mail, alongside revered and influential music legends.

David Gold, the director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, expressed admiration for the Spice Girls, highlighting their formidable impact since their formation in 1994. He emphasized their status as the most successful female music group, acknowledging their influence not just in music but across various facets of society. These special stamps will be available for purchase starting January 11th.
