Nick Carter on Sunday shared a heartbreaking tribute to his brother Aaron Carter, who died the day before. ‘s love never faded.”
Nick wrote,“My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”
Aaron was found dead in his Lancaster, Calif. home early Saturday morning. Brother Nick, 42, is a member of the Backstreet Boys and spoke out about Aaron’s substance abuse struggles on Sunday.
Nick wrote, “Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here. I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz. Now you can finally have the peace you could never find here on earth.”
Nick had a difficult relationship with Aaron and filed a restraining order against him in September 2019 after Aaron threatened to kill Nick’s wife Lauren Kitt, according to Page Six. The order he placed in November 2019 and expired the following year.
Nick wrote in 2019, per US Weekly:
“In light of Aaron’s increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible to protect ourselves and our family,”
Aaron, who became a child star when his older brother became a boy band sensation, told Oprah Winfrey in 2016 that after joining 2009’s “Dancing with the Stars,” he said, “A really big deal.” He entered rehab that year and was arrested for DUI in 2010.
Aaron proposed to girlfriend Melanie Martin in 2020 and welcomed son Prince Lyric Carter in November 2021. She filed a restraining order in March 2022 for Aaron’s broken ribs.
But the late singer has struggled with substance abuse all his adult life and has been in an outpatient rehab program in recent months after losing custody of his children, he told The Sun. Although he hasn’t, he said, “I want my son back,” and that he is working on responding to Trigger.
Nick ended the post on Sunday with some loving words for Aaron.
