Ahead of the film’s release date next month, 20th Century Studios has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated Avatar: The Way of Water. The trailer features stunning images of Pandora, including a stunning ocean shot, and teases the Na’vi’s upcoming conflict.
Avatar’s 2009 sequel is set more than a decade after the events of the first film. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is now a full member of the Na’vi and has his four children with his partner Neytiri (Zoe Saldanha). But trouble looms when an outside force attempts to destroy Pandora once again. It’s a struggle for survival as Jake tries to save his family and new world from destruction.
In addition to Worthington and Saldanha, notable cast members are Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver, who will return for the sequel. Lang reprises his role as Colonel Quaritch in his villain Miles, who died in the Avatar but returns as his avatar. Weaver will play a new character, Kiri, Jake, and Neytiri’s adopted daughter. Other cast members include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin and Vin Diesel.
James Cameron returns to co-write and direct the world he created. Under Cameron, Avatar earned him nearly $3 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing film of all time. Avatar: The Way of Water is the first of his four sequels slated for release in 2022, 2024, 2026 and 2028 respectively.
