The 80-year-old Joni Mitchell recently returned to performing after suffering a near-fatal brain aneurysm in 2015.

The acclaimed singer-songwriter, renowned for her chart-topping hits such as Both Sides Now and Big Yellow Taxi, is in contention for the best folk album award.

Having clinched nine Grammys in the past and honored with a lifetime achievement award in 2002, the 80-year-old artist made a remarkable return to the stage after surviving a life-threatening brain aneurysm in 2015.

In a triumphant comeback event titled “Joni Jam” held in June, she delivered a captivating performance that spanned nearly three hours, supported by celebrated artists like Annie Lennox, Marcus Mumford, and Brandi Carlile.

Acknowledged as “one of the most significant female recording artists of the rock era” during her 2002 Grammy lifetime achievement acceptance, she has amassed a total of 18 Grammy nominations over her illustrious career.

Reflecting on her journey in a 2022 interview with Sir Elton John, she lamented the lack of recognition her music received in the 1970s, attributing it to entrenched sexism within the music industry. She remarked that her deeply personal compositions were perceived as “too intimate,” unsettling some male singer-songwriters who felt pressured to reveal their own vulnerabilities.

SZA tops the list of 2024 Grammy nominees with a total of nine nominations.

Victoria Monét has been nominated for seven awards, while Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift are each in the running for six honors.

Swift has made history at the Grammys with her song of the year nomination, becoming the first songwriter to receive seven nominations in the category, surpassing Sir Paul McCartney and Lionel Richie, who have six each.

In the top three categories, all nominees are female, with the exception of Jon Batiste.

The ceremony will be held in Los Angeles and will be hosted by comedian Trevor Noah.
