Jennifer Lopez will produce a Bob the Builder film, The news comes hot on the heels of the box office success of another Mattel character, Barbie.

Following the box office triumph of another beloved Mattel character, Barbie, comes the swift announcement. Anthony Ramos, renowned for his role in Hamilton, will lend his voice to Roberto/Bob, known for the iconic catchphrase “Can we fix it? Yes, we can!” Mattel disclosed that the upcoming film will delve into the essence of construction while honoring the vibrant cultures of the Caribbean Latin nations. The beloved series Bob the Builder premiered on BBC TV in 1999, captivating audiences for 12 successful series.

The cheerful construction worker, voiced by Neil Morrissey of “Men Behaving Badly” and “Line of Duty” fame, appeared on global channels like Nick Jr and PBS Kids. Lee Ingleby, known for his role in “Our Zoo,” took over the role of Bob in the UK in 2015, as part of a Channel 5 makeover where computer-generated animation replaced stop-motion. In the series, Bob, along with his colleague Wendy and their friends, collaborate to accomplish tasks. Ramos, also a co-producer, expressed pride in incorporating elements from his own life into the show. He described it as a film highlighting friendship, teamwork, and overcoming obstacles through love within a beautiful shared home.

Following the commercial and critical triumph of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, numerous children’s characters are undergoing development for cinematic adaptations. Barbie emerged as the top-grossing film of 2023, securing eight Oscar nominations, five Bafta nominations, and two Golden Globe wins.

Upcoming projects include Lena Dunham directing Polly Pocket, featuring Lily Collins. Daniel Kaluuya is producing an “adult” version of Barney the Dinosaur, which promises to explore millennial angst.

Additional Mattel properties slated for adaptation include Hot Wheels, helmed by JJ Abrams of Star Wars: The Force Awakens fame, as well as Masters of the Universe, Matchbox, and Thomas & Friends.
