Florence Pugh hit by thrown object during Dune: Part Two film promotion

Actress Florence Pugh encountered an unsettling incident on Sunday when a thrown object struck her in the face during a Comic Con event in Brazil. Video footage captured the moment while she was on stage promoting her upcoming film Dune: Part Two with co-stars Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Timothée Chalamet. The footage reveals an object thrown from the audience hitting the 27-year-old Oscar-nominated actress in her right eye.

Earlier in the event in São Paulo, Pugh expressed the significance of participating in the sequel to the popular sci-fi film Dune. Scheduled for release in March 2024, the film has generated high anticipation. Unfortunately, Pugh’s incident adds to a list of celebrities who have faced similar incidents, including Harry Styles, Pink, Adele, Bebe Rexha, and Cardi B, all encountering objects thrown by fans during their performances.

In some instances, such incidents have led to injuries, prompting artists to address the issue during their shows. Adele, for instance, jokingly dared her audience not to throw things at her, emphasizing the forgotten “show etiquette.” Researchers, such as Dr. Lucy Bennett from Cardiff University, suggest that changes in fan behavior may be linked to the shift caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, where physical presence at concerts was restricted. Some fans, seeking attention from their favorite artists, resort to throwing objects as a means of being noticed in the shared physical space of a live performance.
