Ralph Lauren’s first show on America’s West Coast was a celebrity magnet, and clearly, his first show in sunny California became a huge success. Ralph Lauren came with an attitude of go big — or go home.
Many A-list Hollywood stars joined his show, including Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, John Legend, Diane Keaton, Sylvester Stallione, Chris Pine, James Marsden, and Jessica Chastian.
Growing up, Ralph Lauren indulged in the spirit of sophisticated casual luxury, with strong western stylings such as cowboy hats and boots, set against the backdrop of the setting sun at the magnificent Huntington Library, Museum of Art, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, near Los Angeles, California.
Thursday’s celebration rivaled his extravagant 50th-anniversary show in New York’s Central Park in 2018, with models strutting down the runway in an article of stunning clothing. Lauren’s children’s clothing captivates the fashion-conscious.
“We’re in show business,” the designer, 83, said simply in a post-show interview, standing next to the endlessly long, candlelit tables where guests dined post-show on Polo Bar burgers, grilled branzino, and other specialties from his restaurant in New York.
At first, there were a lot of cowboy hats, crimped jeans, and boots, but then it turned into fashionable clothes such as long light-colored skirts and low-cut dresses for women.
Also featured are two young children, each holding the hand of an adult with them, wearing the classic Lauren look of a tweed jacket, sweater vest, pinstripe buttons, and white shorts.
More children followed, and a little boy in light green trousers stole the moment by insisting on giving everyone a high five.
The show, which featured designs from multiple Ralph Lauren lines, including menswear and childrenswear, ended with the models all gathering on the patio and Lauren making a cheering appearance.
