YouTube is rolling out what it calls a “minor makeover” with some new features and design changes with a purpose to make watching videos on the platform a better experience.
In a blog post published Monday, the company said it is adding new tools inspired by feedback from the YouTube creator community and viewers.
Perhaps the first thing users will notice is a color change designed to make the video easier to see. In addition to the new vibrant colors, Ambient Mode allows the app to match the background color to the video. YouTube’s dark theme update aims to make the colors on your screen look more intense.

Meanwhile, new tools will allow users to fast-forward or rewind exactly where they want in the video. This is a feature that may come in handy when watching tutorials. Other changes include a pinch-to-zoom tool that allows users to zoom in and out on videos while they are playing on mobile, and some tweaks coming to the video player. For example, YouTube links in video descriptions will become buttons, and video sharing and download features will be “formatted to minimize distractions.” The subscribe button also go through some changes. While it’s no longer red, YouTube says it’s easier to spot on its channel and video pages thanks to its new shape and higher contrast.
New features will be rolled out gradually over the next few weeks.
