As EQUAL Pakistan’s October ambassador, Eva B, the country’s first veiled rapper, will be the latest face to appear on a digital billboard in Times Square, New York City. Her song ‘Mukhtasir Baatein’ will be included on her Spotify as part of her accreditation to EQUAL’s regional and international playlists.
Baloch-born Eva Baloch, also known by her stage name Eva B, dominates the music scene with a string of hits. Her song “Kana Yari” has over 10 million plays on the streaming platform and nearly 400,000 monthly Spotify listeners.
In 2014, Eva B’s career took off under the influence of great rappers Queen Latifah and Eminem. She started writing her lyrics and uploading them online, eventually gaining followers and attention. Since then, she has evolved a lot as she has collaborated with celebrities such as Ali Gul Pir, Muhammad and Anas Baloch. Even the end credits of the first episode of the Ms. Marvel TV series included her song “Rozi”.
Eva B couldn’t contain her excitement about being featured as EQUAL Pakistan’s Ambassador this month, and said, “I feel super excited and I’m happy to be a part of Spotify’s EQUAL program. I feel very proud. Initiatives like these aren’t just important but they are really required – they are the need of the hour.”
Eva is thrilled to be the first and only ‘veiled rapper’ and her veil is an integral part of her artistic identity. If she can achieve what she wants with resilience, hard work and perseverance, nothing will stop her. Coming from a conservative background, Eva grew up in Lyari, a Karachi district known for the rise of hip-hop, and more recently has produced iron boxers and top soccer players.
