The football superstar, along with his Senegalese teammate Sadio Mane, can be seen donning thobes while their fellow teammates participate in traditional dances and wield ceremonial swords.
In the slightly over two-and-a-half-minute video, three fans navigate through the club’s premises and spot several players taking part in traditional Saudi activities. Al Nassr teammates Abdulrahman Ghareeb and Nawaf Alaqidi are seen on the drums, while goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah and Portuguese midfielder Otavio are sharing Arabic coffee. However, it’s Ronaldo who steals the spotlight, engaging in the Ardah folk dance alongside teammates Marcelo Brozovic, Abdullah Alkhaibari, and Sultan Al Ghanam.
The caption on Twitter for the video reads: “All united. Under one flag. We dream and achieve,” accompanied by various emojis. At the time of this writing, the video had garnered more than 1.4 million views since its upload early on Friday.
Ronaldo made his move to Saudi club Al Nassr FC in December, signing a reported two-and-a-half-year deal worth over $200 million annually.
Since relocating to Saudi Arabia, the famous footballer and his family, including partner Georgina Rodriguez and their five children, have enthusiastically embraced the local culture. In February, his son Cristiano Jr., aged 12, went viral for wearing a thobe with a two-button collar and a baseball cap in a selfie with his grandmother. A week later, Ronaldo himself was seen wearing a thobe with an intricately embroidered navy blue and gold robe, known as a daqlah, as he celebrated the country’s Founding Day.
A thobe, also known as a thawb, is a ankle-length robe with long sleeves, commonly worn by men in the Gulf region. In the UAE, it is referred to as a kandura, while in Kuwait, Iraq, and Oman, it may be called a dishdasha.
Even Rodriguez has updated her wardrobe to align with their new lifestyle and has frequently been photographed wearing an abaya as part of her attire.
