Nick Brown, Myrtle’s brother, took to Instagram to express concern, stating, “My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is, I want him to know that I love you, and please come home.”

Myrtle Brown’s remains were discovered near a creek behind her residence on Saturday, as confirmed by law enforcement.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, represented by spokesperson Natalia Derevyanny, has concluded that her death resulted from assault-related injuries, categorizing it as a homicide. Specific information regarding the nature of the injuries sustained by the mother has not been disclosed by the coroner’s office.
Both mother and son reported missing Saturday
Family members of Sergio Brown and his mother reported their inability to locate or contact either of them to the Maywood police on Saturday, according to the police department.
In a news release, the police stated, “Maywood Police Officers initiated a missing person report and began making attempts to locate both individuals.”
Neighbor Carlos Cortez mentioned that relatives were actively searching for Myrtle and had even approached their neighbors for assistance. He informed WBBM, “Her family came and knocked on the door and was looking for her because they put out a police report because she was missing for 72 hours. So, we tried to help them as much as possible.”
Cortez, who also provided his Ring doorbell footage to the police, mentioned that he last saw the Browns on Thursday, as reported by WBBM.

On Sunday, Sergio Brown’s brother took to Instagram, expressing gratitude for the condolences received and appealing for assistance in locating Sergio.
Nick Brown requested that anyone with information regarding Sergio’s whereabouts share it with the Maywood Police Department. He also urged individuals to refrain from approaching the family’s property while the investigation is ongoing.
Video footage from CNN affiliate WBBM revealed that the residential street in Maywood, located approximately 11 miles from downtown Chicago, had been cordoned off with police tape as officers responded to the situation. In a written message, Nick Brown emphasized, “People, please don’t approach the property; this is still an ongoing investigation by the Maywood Police Department.”

Neighbors fondly described Myrtle as a stylish and sociable individual who had a passion for dancing.
One neighbor, Kevin Grayer, shared with CNN affiliate WLS, “Just a lovely lady. Very soft-spoken, outgoing. Always on the go. Just a happy person. Her personality was just wonderful.” He expressed his sadness over her tragic fate, stating, “She didn’t deserve that. She was too good of a person to die like that. That’s just sad.”
Myrtle’s son, Nick Brown, recalled his last conversation with his mother as a source of hope during this difficult time. He shared, “It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together. Mom always told me, ‘tough times don’t last,’ and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope.” Nick expressed his gratitude to his mother for her strength, care, diligence, sense of style, humor, and for preserving his art, pledging not to let her down.
