Major League Baseball announced ahead of Thursday’s opener that new players will wear debut patches on their jerseys. Patches will appear in different places on the sleeves, depending on the team and anniversary sponsors.
After a player appears in their first game, patches will be certified and placed on Topps baseball cards as part of an agreement between MLB and the commercial arm of the Players Association with Fanatics Collectibles, which is a division of , which acquired the trading card company Topps last year.
