The Marvel star Jeremy Renner reflected on his recovery after being run over by his own snow plough last New Year’s Day.
After enduring a snow plough accident that left him with over 30 broken bones and in critical condition last New Year’s Day, Jeremy Renner, 52, credited his survival to his strong sense of purpose. The actor, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, emphasized the importance of having numerous reasons to keep fighting through adversity.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Renner expressed gratitude for his expansive family and his 10-year-old daughter, acknowledging that their presence provided him with immense motivation to push through his recovery. He highlighted his determination to improve, recognizing that failing to recover would have had a detrimental impact on the lives of many.
Renner’s resilience and refusal to give up stemmed from both his tenacity and the multitude of reasons he had to continue striving forward. He saw recovery as the only viable path and remained steadfast in his commitment to reclaiming his health and well-being.
After a New Year storm blanketed multiple states in heavy snow, an accident occurred involving Renner and his snow plow. He had used the plow to assist his nephew, whose car had become stuck near Renner’s residence. After successfully freeing the car, Renner exited the vehicle. Unfortunately, the unattended plow unexpectedly began moving, prompting Renner to try re-entering the driver’s seat to regain control. In a tragic turn of events, the “extremely large” piece of machinery rolled over Renner, as stated by Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam at the time.
The actor was transported by air to a hospital in Reno, Nevada, where he spent time in an intensive care unit.
In an interview with CNN, he expressed concern for his “poor nephew” who witnessed the accident, acknowledging that the images may stay with him. However, he believed that his own healing process would also benefit his nephew and others close to him, including his daughter.
Reflecting on his recovery, he emphasized a mindset focused solely on improvement, stating, “I never dwelled on my own physical pain or suffering. It was a one-way path towards recovery—a mental attitude that allowed no other option but to get better.”
Following the interview, he posted a photo on his Instagram stories embracing his nephew, expressing gratitude for his role in saving his life.
Renner recently revisited the hospital that had treated him, expressing gratitude and appreciation for the staff, first responders, and healthcare professionals. He shared his sentiments on social media, acknowledging the community for their support that contributed to his recovery. Recognized primarily for his Marvel roles, he’s also acclaimed for his performances in “The Hurt Locker,” “Wind River,” “American Hustle,” and “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.” Renner earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his role in “The Hurt Locker” and a Best Supporting Actor nod for “The Town.”
In addition to his film work, he stars in the Paramount+ series “The Mayor Of Kingstown.” Despite health challenges, Renner conveyed to CNN his readiness to resume filming for the third season, emphasizing his determination and optimism. He stated, “I feel prepared, strong enough for it. It’s happening soon, in about a week. I’ll give it my all and do my utmost.”
